Portobello Road Market:
Dating back to around 1870, the Portobello Saturday Market would attract crowds of people enjoying time out from the hard working week – creating a carnival atmosphere with food stalls and side-shows. In the decades that followed, stall holders made their case for extending market trading days and, in 1927, traders were granted licences to operate from Monday to Saturday.

Portobello Road Market is now one of the best known street markets in London with stalls running the full length of the Portobello Road. The southern part (near to Notting Hill Gate tube station) concentrates mainly on antiques and bric-a-brac.

Speciality dealers or stalls include antique and vintage handbags, vintage sports equipment, magnifying glass specialists. Also, a binocular stall and a specialist in hand painted tin soldiers.

The middle section is dedicated to fine food stalls with excellent fruit, vegetables and bread. Sample food from the wide variety of street food stalls. Street eats range from German bratwurst to Spanish chocolate to specialities from Ghana.

The northern end (near Ladbroke Grove tube station) specialises in second hand, retro and vintage clothing.
